NSC Standing Committee Meeting Chaired by National Security Director... "All North Korean Ballistic Missile Launches Violate UN Security Council"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] On the 14th, the National Security Office convened the Standing Committee of the National Security Council (NSC) to discuss response measures regarding North Korea's fighter jets flying near the no-fly zone, multiple rocket launcher firing, and short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) launches.
That morning, the National Security Office held an NSC Standing Committee meeting chaired by Director Kim Seonghan, stating, "We note that North Korea has been launching ballistic missiles at an unprecedented frequency, at various times and locations, and reaffirm that all ballistic missile launches by North Korea are clear violations of UN Security Council resolutions."
In particular, NSC Standing Committee members strongly condemned North Korea for violating the 'September 19 Military Agreement' under the pretext of our regular legitimate firing drills, carrying out artillery firing within the maritime buffer zone, and escalating military tensions through hostile acts such as threatening flights and illegal ballistic missile launches. The attendees emphasized that North Korea's provocations will inevitably have consequences and agreed on the need to cooperate with the international community, including the United States and Japan.
Furthermore, all ballistic missile launches by North Korea are violations of UN Security Council resolutions, and the NSC urged responsible roles from Security Council member states. The NSC also mentioned plans to strengthen the robust ROK-US combined defense posture through the upcoming 'Defense of the Nation Training' scheduled from next week.
Meanwhile, the NSC Standing Committee meeting was attended by Director Kim Seonghan, Foreign Minister Park Jin, Unification Minister Kwon Young-se, Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop, National Intelligence Service Director Kim Gyu-hyeon, NSC Secretariat Chief Kim Tae-hyo, and Deputy Director of the National Security Office Im Jong-deuk.
