[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] About half of the public supports trilateral military cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan. However, opposition voices were dominant regarding the government's official decision to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.


According to a Media Tomato public opinion poll (commissioned by News Tomato, conducted from the 10th to the 12th nationwide among 1,050 men and women aged 18 and older using wireless ARS method), 48.3% of respondents expressed support for moving from the existing South Korea-U.S. alliance to trilateral military cooperation with Japan in response to North Korea's threats. Opposition was 41.4%, and 10.4% were unsure.

Among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea, opposition was high at 70.9%, whereas supporters of the People Power Party showed a majority support of 86.1%.


Regarding the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, opposition was 48.7%, surpassing support at 42.7%. Those who answered "unsure" accounted for 8.6%. Among men, support for the abolition was 48.1%, and opposition was 43.6%. Conversely, among women, opposition was 53.7%, and support was 37.4%.


Positions also differed according to political party support. Among Democratic Party supporters, opposition to the abolition was high at 79.5%, while among People Power Party supporters, support was high at 75.8%.


Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol’s administration, positive evaluations rose by 1 percentage point from last week to 30.4%.
