[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province signed a business agreement on the 11th to cooperate on the construction and operation of a smart city with Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia.
The agreement includes mutual cooperation between the two cities on all aspects of smart cities, as well as the exchange of technologies and know-how in the construction and operation of smart cities possessed by Bucheon City and Bucheon Urban Corporation.
For this business cooperation, not only Ulaanbaatar City but also officials from the Police Agency and the City Council from Mongolia visited in large numbers.
Sukhbaatar B., Vice Mayor of Ulaanbaatar City and representative of the City Council, stated, "We will actively consider introducing Bucheon City's excellent smart services so that Ulaanbaatar citizens can enjoy a safe and convenient life."
Ulaanbaatar City plans to promote a sustainable urban transportation project worth 115 million USD, and starting from the end of this year, it will cooperate with Bucheon City by beginning consulting on Bucheon City's smart city solutions for selecting detailed projects.
The two cities signed an MOU in 2018 regarding cooperation on the development and operation of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
Building on this, they have been strengthening a continuous cooperation system covering the entire smart city, starting with the pilot installation of Bucheon-type bus information displays in Ulaanbaatar City, holding a local seminar commemorating the first anniversary of business cooperation, and being selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2020 K-City Network' global cooperation program focused on smart transportation.
Cho Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon City, said, "I hope that the smart city model shared by Bucheon City and Ulaanbaatar City through this business agreement will spread worldwide," and added, "Furthermore, I hope exchanges will expand into various fields such as tourism and healthcare."
