[Asia Economy Reporter Juri Kim] In the United States, a tragic incident occurred where young siblings were attacked and killed by two pit bulls.

According to local media including CBS on the 7th (local time), on the 5th, two pit bulls kept at a home in Shelby County, Tennessee, attacked the siblings and their mother.

Two-year-old Lilly and five-month-old Hollace died at the scene, and their mother, Kirsty Jane Bernard, was seriously injured while trying to restrain the pit bulls and is currently receiving hospital treatment.

The two pit bulls were 'Mia' and 'Chichi,' who had been living with the Bernard family for eight years. Kirsty's acquaintance, Kelsey Canfield, said, "The pit bulls were friends of Lilly and Hollace, growing up together and had never attacked them before."

It was reported that the pit bulls' attack lasted for more than 10 minutes. The pit bulls persistently lunged at two-year-old Lilly and five-month-old Hollace, and their mother, Kirsty Jane Bernard, desperately tried to protect the children but was overwhelmed.

The police who responded to the report stated that the siblings were found deceased at the scene.

According to Fox News, Kelsey said, "The attack by the two dogs lasted an unimaginably long time," and added, "The children meant everything to Kirsty, and if there had been any signs of danger from the pit bulls, she would never have let them near the children."

Kirsty, the mother who confronted the pit bulls, also sustained serious injuries. A relative of the siblings wrote on social media, "Kirsty rushed in to save the children," adding, "Her face and body bear bite marks and stitched wounds from the pit bulls. Her limbs are also wrapped in bandages."

The authorities have not disclosed the reason why the dogs attacked the children. However, it was reported that the two pit bulls were euthanized the following day.

Meanwhile, dog bite incidents have been occurring frequently in the United States recently.

On the 7th, in the northeastern area of Los Angeles, an elderly woman believed to be Korean in her 80s was attacked and killed by two dogs. Both dogs involved in the attack were reported to be of the Dogo Argentino breed.

Earlier, in July, in Fresno, Texas, a man in his 70s was attacked by seven pit bull terriers while going to a local store. The man was immediately taken to the hospital by sheriffs but died from excessive bleeding.
