Is There Such a District Mayor in the World?... Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, Cleaning Toilets for the Elderly Elderly Restroom Cleaning by Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin District Office

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 11th, Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, personally visited the homes of elderly individuals in vulnerable single-person households to assist with cleaning and organizing, check on their health, and care for the residents.

This "Vulnerable Group Home Nursing Accompaniment and Total Home Care" initiative was organized to mark 100 days since the launch of the 8th term of the civil administration, with Mayor Kim visiting the field where the residents are to communicate directly and set the direction of district administration.

"Oh my, how did you come all the way to such a narrow and tucked-away place~"

A 92-year-old elderly person living alone warmly welcomed Mayor Kim, holding his hand tightly.

"Elderly sir, has your rib injury improved? How do you manage your side dishes? Using the bathroom must be very inconvenient!"

The elderly person in the vulnerable single-person household visited that day had a rib fracture last year and had difficulty moving around, so Mayor Kim asked about various concerns and checked on their daily life and health.

Together with a visiting nurse, Mayor Kim checked blood pressure, diabetes levels, and medication adherence, carefully ensuring that the elderly person had received support such as accompaniment to hospital through the Care SOS program, special meals for Senior Citizens' Day, and home repair assistance for vulnerable groups, and inquired if there were any inconveniences or additional services needed.

The visit to vulnerable groups continued at another elderly person's home who is being monitored for chronic diseases. A 76-year-old elderly person had difficulty cleaning due to limited mobility, so without hesitation, Mayor Kim rolled up his pant legs and started cleaning the bathroom.

After the bathroom was sparkling clean and the elderly person's expression brightened, Mayor Kim asked whether the monthly cleaning and organizing support through Total Home Care, Care SOS meal support, and temporary in-home care services were practically helpful in daily life, and discussed the inconveniences caused by chronic diseases and areas where further assistance could be provided.

Along with this, Mayor Kim urged the accompanying visiting nurse, welfare planner, and home care service staff to conduct thorough monitoring and care to ensure continuous and detailed support for the elderly.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "It was truly meaningful to hear directly from the elderly about their inconveniences and areas for improvement on site today," adding, "We will actively reflect on the points raised to serve the elderly well, and will spare no effort in discovering welfare blind spots and promoting projects for socially vulnerable groups."
