[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The cutting-edge Green Smart Zones have opened on Dosan-daero and Hakdong-daero, the main roads in Gangnam-gu, much to the delight of citizens using public transportation.

Dwelling, a smart shelter specialist company (CEO Jeon Jeong-hwan), has partnered with Gangnam-gu Office to enhance citizen convenience.

Dwelling installed 20 Green Smart Zones, spaces for citizens using public transportation to enjoy, on Dosan-daero and Hakdong-daero, and officially opened them on the afternoon of the 11th.

Since September, the Green Smart Zones, which have been open to the public throughout Gangnam, are bus waiting areas that maintain a consistently clean and pleasant environment by applying air quality measurement and purification systems based on Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data technologies.

Moreover, by integrating advanced technologies such as signage, smart kiosks for interactive Digital Out-Of-Home advertising (DOOH), and metaverse linkage, these zones are expected to function as complex cultural spaces providing beneficial content to citizens.

Dwelling is recognized as a specialized company in 4th industrial revolution convergence services that provide an advanced quality of life. Starting with services offering air care (air purification and sterilization) systems developed with proprietary technology to improve ultrafine dust, harmful chemicals, bacteria, viruses, and odors in hospitals, schools, and nursing homes, the company has expanded its scope to public places and public transportation air quality management services including buses, subways, and tunnels.

Since last year, Dwelling has been selected as the pilot operator for Seoul’s ‘Smart Shelter’ project aimed at citizen convenience and safety, installing and managing smart stations at major Seoul hubs such as Sungnyemun, Hongdae, Hapjeong-dong, Konkuk University, Magok, and Cheonho.

The newly opened Green Smart Zones are facilities that technologically and aesthetically advance the ‘Fine Dust Free Zones’ previously installed by Gangnam-gu on Teheran-ro. Through continuous air quality monitoring and purification functions, they provide clean air free from exhaust fumes, fine dust, and various viruses, while also featuring heating and cooling functions to help citizens endure heat waves and cold spells.

Citizens using the Green Smart Zones can receive real-time bus operation and arrival information through smart kiosks and enjoy brand content and public information on smart displays. Public free Wi-Fi, heated and smartphone charging smart chairs have been installed to enhance convenience. Additionally, safety features such as automated external defibrillators, emergency bells, closed-circuit (CC)TV, and platform screen doors (PSD) are fully equipped, reflecting careful attention to safety.

Jeon Jeong-hwan, CEO of Dwelling, stated, “The Green Smart Zones are initially installed on Dosan-daero (14 locations) and Hakdong-ro (6 locations), which boast the highest traffic volume in the country (over 200,000 vehicles daily) and a large floating population (80,000 daily transfer passengers on subway lines 3, 7, and Bundang Line). We plan to gradually expand and install them in major areas of Seoul through consultations with local governments.”

To celebrate the opening of the Green Smart Zones, Gangnam-gu Office and Dwelling organized a cultural event to introduce the facilities to citizens. The opening ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 11th at the Green Smart Zone near Hakdong Intersection (ID: 23126). Events including a performance by Seoul’s representative b-boy crew ‘MB Crew’ and the ‘Gangnam Green Fashion Show’ have been prepared for citizens to enjoy together.

Currently, Dwelling, selected as the operator of over 1,200 locations including central lanes and roadside bus stops, smart shelters, and Green Smart Zones throughout Seoul, holds the largest number of advertising spaces in Korea with over 4,500 ad panels. The company is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in the second half of 2023, aiming for business diversification and revenue growth through transitioning into a digital out-of-home advertising platform operator, based on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management.
