Tree Planted for Privacy Protection Saves Young Girl's Life

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the afternoon of the 9th, around 4:30 PM, a 3-year-old girl fell from the 5th floor of an apartment in Naeseo-eup, Masanhwoin-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, but miraculously survived the accident.

According to the Changwon Fire Department on the 11th, the child was caught by a tree in the apartment flower bed during the fall, which helped reduce the impact and prevented serious injury.

The accident was witnessed by Lee Uwan, a member of the Changwon City Council's Planning and Administration Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea.

Lee stated that upon hearing a thud and seeing the child fallen in front of the first-floor veranda window, he immediately ran outside.

He confirmed the measures that elementary school students at the scene had already taken, reported the incident to 119 with detailed information, and protected the child until the ambulance arrived.

The tree that softened the fall impact was planted at Lee’s prior request to the management office to protect the privacy of residents on the apartment’s first floor.

Lee said, “Although I was startled by the sudden situation, anyone would have run to help a person in danger. I am relieved that the child was not seriously injured, and I am truly proud of the elementary students who responded calmly and actively at the scene.”

The Changwon City Council plans to identify the elementary students who assisted with the rescue alongside Lee and award them commendations from the city council chairman during the next extraordinary session.
