Gangjin-gun, Repair of (Old) Mokri Bridge Threatening Residents' Safety

[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin County in Jeonnam has secured 2.3 billion KRW in special grants to address urgent issues such as resident safety.

Last August, Gangjin County Governor Gang Jin-won personally visited the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to explain the necessity of the projects and strongly requested budget allocation, which is interpreted as the result of the county's determination and active efforts to secure the budget.

Special grants are funds provided by the government to local governments to cover special financial demands arising from regional issues or disasters. Following the 1.1 billion KRW secured in the first half of this year, the county has secured 2.3 billion KRW in the second half and is actively addressing local issues.

The projects funded by the special grants this time include ▲ 1.1 billion KRW for repair and reinforcement of the (Gu) Mokri Bridge, ▲ 800 million KRW for maintenance around the Baegundong Wonlim Exhibition Hall, and ▲ 400 million KRW for replacement of aging water pipelines between Gangjin-eup and Gundong-myeon.

In particular, the repair and reinforcement of the (Gu) Mokri Bridge, which received a D grade in a detailed safety inspection and has restricted vehicle traffic, and the replacement of aging water pipelines between Gangjin-eup and Gundong-myeon to resolve the cloudy water issue that occurred near Koaru and Junghung Apartments over the past four months, are expected to promptly alleviate residents' inconveniences and greatly improve quality of life.

Gang Jin-won, Governor of Gangjin County, said, “We are striving to improve living conditions for residents and restore the glory of Gangjin, the number one destination for Namdo exploration, which was stagnant due to COVID-19. We will continue to closely monitor urgent issues and do our best to build a dynamic Gangjin by smoothly advancing various projects that are difficult to implement with only county finances through securing government budgets and special grants.”
