[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] On the 10th (local time), the German Federal Prosecutor's Office reportedly launched an investigation into the destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipelines connecting Russia and Germany, according to major foreign media on the same day.

A spokesperson for the German Federal Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been initiated on charges of inducing explosive detonations and sabotage related to attacks on three of the four Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines.

As a result, the German Federal Police and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution have been able to secure direct evidence and participate in the international investigation group. Already on the 7th, the German Armed Forces and police headed to the incident site to collect evidence using the underwater drone 'Sea Cat'.

According to the prosecutor's office, sufficient evidence has already been found that the gas pipelines were deliberately damaged through multiple explosions. The prosecutor explained that this constitutes a violent attack on Germany's energy supply system and could threaten internal and external security, making it subject to investigation.

At the end of September, a massive leak occurred in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines located 70 meters underwater. It was later revealed that the pipelines were completely destroyed by explosive detonations. Western intelligence agencies believe that because carrying out such sabotage is complex, state actors were likely involved.
