Fire in a Semi-basement in Mapo at Dawn During Holiday... Man in His 30s Dies

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A fire broke out in a multi-family house in Mapo-gu, Seoul, resulting in the death of one resident.

According to the Seoul Mapo Fire Station, a fire occurred at a multi-family house in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, around 2:41 a.m. on the 10th. Fire authorities responded to a report stating, "There was a burning smell and flames were seen in the underground veranda."

The fire department deployed 75 firefighters and 21 pieces of equipment, and the fire was fully extinguished around 3:15 a.m.

Seven residents evacuated on their own, but a man in his 30s living in the semi-basement died. Fire authorities found the man in the basement bathroom, provided emergency treatment, and transported him to the hospital, but he ultimately passed away.

The property damage, including loss of household goods and partial damage to the house, is estimated at approximately 11 million KRW.

The fire department believes the fire started in the semi-basement kitchen and is investigating the exact cause of the fire.
