As of 9 PM, 8,549 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide... Below 10,000 for the First Time in 14 Weeks

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] As the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases continues to decline, the nationwide new confirmed cases fell below 10,000 for the first time in 14 weeks as of 9 PM.

According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the 9th, a total of 8,549 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide. This is about half of the number at the same time the previous day (16,934). It is 3,123 fewer than a week ago on the 2nd (11,672) and 5,130 fewer than two weeks ago on the 25th of last month (13,679).

The number of confirmed cases falling below 10,000 as of 9 PM is the first time in 14 weeks since Sunday, July 3rd (5,880). Although there is still time until the midnight cutoff for the final tally, the new confirmed cases to be announced on the 10th are expected to remain around 10,000.

New confirmed cases were 4,160 (48.7%) in the Seoul metropolitan area and 4,389 (51.3%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, Gyeonggi had 2,479 cases, Seoul 1,494, Gyeongnam 409, Gyeongbuk 534, Incheon 565, Daegu 384, Chungbuk 349, Chungnam 313, Jeonbuk 302, Gangwon 418, Jeonnam 257, Busan 198, Daejeon 275, Gwangju 230, Ulsan 187, Jeju 78, and Sejong 77.

From the 3rd to the 9th, the daily new confirmed cases were 12,142 → 16,415 → 34,731 → 28,638 → 22,298 → 19,431 → 17,654, averaging 21,615 cases per day.
