LG Uplus employees are introducing the 'FUN UI' feature, which posts new designs at the top of the U+tv home screen on holidays such as Christmas, Lunar New Year, and Chuseok, as well as during weather changes like snow and rain.
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] LG Uplus announced on the 9th that it will enhance the user experience (UX) of its Internet TV (IPTV) service ‘U+tv’ and improve the emotional quality perceived by customers.
LG Uplus introduced the 'FUN User Interface (FUN UI)' feature, which displays images symbolizing various anniversaries on the U+tv home screen, and also improved the poster image quality of VOD content.
First, the FUN UI is a feature that posts new designs at the top of the U+tv home screen according to holidays such as Christmas, Seollal, Chuseok, or weather changes like snow and rain. For Chuseok, it displays images of a full moon and a rabbit; for Gaecheonjeol, the Taegeukgi (Korean national flag); and for Hangeul Day, the Hunminjeongeum image.
To achieve this, LG Uplus developed ‘MFA’ technology, a design method that operates a single application divided into multiple smaller units. Unlike the previous method, which managed the entire screen and required a full software update even for changing font size, now data necessary for screen composition such as menu and content order, position, size, and color can be easily changed without updates.
LG Uplus plans to first apply FUN UI on holidays like Christmas and Seollal, and later expand it to personalized special anniversaries such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and Coming-of-Age Day based on customer data.
The image quality of VOD content posters was also improved. LG Uplus applied AI deep learning-based image enhancement technology that removes noise included in images, enhancing the contours of human faces, details of clothing, and clarity of text to improve image quality. After verifying the solution through IPTV service, it will be expanded to mobile TV.
LG Uplus plans to continuously improve customer emotional quality by enhancing remote control response speed and screen transition quality within the year.
