[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] American electric vehicle startup Rivian announced a voluntary recall of approximately 12,000 vehicles due to a steering system issue.

According to the Associated Press on the 8th (local time), Rivian stated in a letter sent to customers the previous day, "A problem was found where a specific steering system component in some vehicles may not have been sufficiently tightened," and "an urgent recall is being conducted to address this."

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the voluntary recall covers 12,212 vehicles, including electric pickups, vans, and SUVs. The recall is due to the front steering system's suspension nuts not being sufficiently tightened, which could potentially lead to accidents.

The company explained that seven cases suspected to be related to this issue have been reported, but no injuries have been reported so far. However, if there is abnormal noise or vibration from the front of the vehicle, immediate repair is necessary, and customers will not incur any costs, the company added.

This is Rivian's third recall this year. Previously, about 500 vehicles were recalled in August due to airbag issues, and about 200 vehicles were recalled in May due to seatbelt anchor problems.
