A 388.92㎡ Two-Story Library Located Next to Achasan Ecological Park in Gwangjang-dong
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Achasan Forest Library has officially opened.
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the "Achasan Forest Library Official Opening Ceremony" on the 7th at Achasan Eoullim Square.
Achasan Forest Library, the 7th public library in Gwangjin-gu, is located next to Achasan Ecological Park in Gwangjang-dong. The library has a total floor area of 388.92㎡ and consists of two above-ground floors. The first floor houses a collection room with approximately 5,000 general and children's books, while the second floor offers newspapers and magazines, with a total of 60 reading seats available.
In particular, visitors can read Gwangjin-gu public library e-books (audiobooks), foreign e-books, humanities lectures, and electronic magazines through smart tablets inside the library or their personal smartphones.
Achasan Forest Library, completed last summer, underwent a one-month pilot operation period during which improvements were made before its official opening.
At the opening ceremony, District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and about 300 local residents celebrated the opening and toured the facility.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "We have created an urban sanctuary in Achasan, representing Gwangjin-gu, where all generations can heal," adding, "I hope this book sanctuary, where nature and culture harmonize, will become a representative landmark of Gwangjin-gu."
Additionally, Mayor Kim Kyung-ho announced the recommended book list for the "Reading 500 Books Before School" campaign starting next year. The recommended list was compiled by librarians from Gwangjin Public Library and external committee members.
Moreover, side events such as ▲Reading Club Festival Experience Booth ▲Gwangnaru Academy Lecture "Libraries in History ? Jiphyeonjeon and Gyujanggak" ▲Busking performances featuring ensemble classical music, ocarina, and guitar enriched the opening ceremony.
Notably, the Reading Club Festival Experience Booth offered a total of eight diverse activities, including ▲Booknic (reading and enjoying a picnic-like atmosphere on the lawn) ▲Gwangjin Forest Mama (storytelling and children's theater) ▲Gwangjin Makerspace (3D pen experience and craft making), attracting much attention.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu said, "I am delighted that Achasan Forest Library, where visitors can leisurely enjoy reading while feeling the energy of the forest, has officially opened," and added, "We will continue to create an environment conducive to reading for everyone from children to seniors, making Gwangjin a great place for reading."
