[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 8th, the number of new COVID-19 cases dropped to the 10,000 range.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, 19,431 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 24,953,135. The number of new cases decreased by 2,867 compared to the previous day (22,298 cases).
Compared to one week ago on the 1st (26,947 cases), the number decreased by 7,516, and compared to two weeks ago on the 24th of last month (29,334 cases), it decreased by 9,903.
From the 2nd to the 8th, the daily new cases for one week were 23,587 → 12,142 → 16,416 → 34,734 → 28,648 → 22,298 → 19,431, with a daily average of 22,465 cases.
Among the new cases on this day, 59 were imported cases, which is 5 more than the previous day (54 cases).
Since the mandatory PCR test after entry was lifted on the 1st, the detection of imported cases has significantly decreased. From the end of last month to the beginning of this month, daily imported cases were in the 200-300 range, but since the 5th, for four consecutive days including today, they have been below 100. Excluding imported cases, domestic regional infections numbered 19,372.
The number of cases by region are: Gyeonggi 5,328, Seoul 3,963, Gyeongbuk 1,109, Incheon 1,062, Gyeongnam 1,057, Daegu 1,018, Busan 949, Chungnam 755, Gangwon 690, Chungbuk 668, Jeonbuk 656, Daejeon 504, Jeonnam 502, Gwangju 474, Ulsan 366, Jeju 156, Sejong 149, and quarantine 25.
As of midnight, the number of critically ill patients in care was 287, which is 42 fewer than the previous day (329).
The number of deaths due to COVID-19 on the previous day was 32, which is 9 fewer than the day before (41). Among the new deaths, 56.3% (18 people) were aged 80 or older. The cumulative death toll is 28,646, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
