[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] China conducted six consecutive days of military activities with a show of force in the Taiwan Strait during the National Day holiday period starting from the 1st.
According to the Taiwan Ministry of National Defense on the 7th, from the first day of the holiday on the 1st, Chinese military aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, the de facto boundary between the two sides (China and Taiwan), moving eastward or entering Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) for six consecutive days.
During this period, a total of 23 Chinese military aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered Taiwan's ADIZ. The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense explained that while inducing the Chinese military aircraft to withdraw, ground-based air defense missile units also tracked the Chinese aircraft.
However, Taiwan added that on the last day of the holiday, the 7th, only eight Chinese military aircraft and four warships were detected near Taiwan, but they did not cross the median line of the Taiwan Strait or enter Taiwan's ADIZ.
Since U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan in August, China has been conducting large-scale military demonstrations in the Taiwan Strait. In particular, the military aircraft have been entering and exiting Taiwan's ADIZ or crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait almost daily, showing an aggressive posture aimed at neutralizing this line, which was unilaterally established by the United States in the 1950s.
In this regard, Bloomberg News reported on the same day that U.S. President Joe Biden clearly stated that U.S. forces would be deployed if China attacks Taiwan.
The news agency cited sources familiar with the Biden administration's deliberations, saying, "Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, emergency plans for a potential attack on Taiwan have been strengthened," and highlighted the strategic importance of Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
