Prosecutors Investigate Former Unification Minister Cho Myung-gyun Over Blacklist Allegations

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The prosecution, investigating allegations of a blacklist, is currently questioning former Minister of Unification Cho Myung-gyun.

According to the legal community on the 7th, the Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Seo Hyun-wook) is questioning former Minister Cho this morning in the capacity of a suspect.

Previously, the Ministry of Unification faced allegations that between 2017 and the following year, during the early period of the Moon Jae-in administration, it pressured some heads of subordinate agencies appointed by the previous administration to resign. The investigation into the blacklist allegations began in 2019 when the Liberty Korea Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, along with the Ministry of Education and others, filed a complaint with the prosecution accusing 11 ministers at the time of abuse of power.

Regarding this, a prosecution official stated, "The cases involving the Ministry of Unification and the Ministry of Science and ICT, which are similar in timing and nature to the ongoing Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy case, are also being handled together within the necessary scope according to standard procedures."
