Naju-si Awarded 'Excellence Prize' at Korea Lifelong Learning Awards

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] On the 7th, Naju City, Jeollanam-do, received the Excellence Award in the Lifelong Learning category at the ‘19th Korea Lifelong Learning Awards’ ceremony held at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.

According to the city, the Lifelong Learning Awards is the only award ceremony in the lifelong learning field hosted by the National Institute for Lifelong Education (Ministry of Education) to discover and spread excellent cases that foster a culture of lifelong learning practice and learning in everyday life for people of all ages.

Selected as a Korea Lifelong Learning City in 2020, the city stood on the Lifelong Learning Awards stage for two consecutive years as the only local government nationwide, following a special award last year.

The program that led to the two-year consecutive award, titled ‘Rediscovery of the Wise Farm,’ is a non-face-to-face agricultural product cooking experience program connecting urban and rural areas, which received great responses from trainees composed of employees and families of public institutions relocated to the innovation city.

This program consisted of ‘Rural exploration by families of relocated public institution employees,’ ‘Neighborhood understanding and crop harvesting experience,’ ‘Recipe development using village crops,’ and ‘YouTube and SNS learning sharing.’

Fresh ingredients produced in rural villages were distributed to each household, enabling farmers to secure sales channels, while trainees learned new cooking recipes under the guidance of cooking experts and promoted them through SNS, contributing to the activation of urban-rural exchange.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “By utilizing healthy agricultural products, we provided sales channels and income to farmers and opportunities for rural exchange and leisure activities to residents of the innovation city,” adding, “We will continue to guarantee learning opportunities for self-growth that anyone in the city desires and leap forward as a leading lifelong learning city, Naju.”
