Goheung-gun, Investment Attraction for 'Eco-friendly Aquaculture Cluster' Development

Goheung-gun, Investment Attraction for 'Eco-friendly Aquaculture Cluster' Development

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it is presenting the future vision of the 8th local government term as ‘Establishing a population base of 100,000 in 10 years’ as a solution to the major issues of population decline and job creation, and is preparing and implementing various population policies.

As a result of these efforts, it has attracted investment worth 110 billion KRW related to the ‘Goheung Eco-friendly Aquaculture Cluster’ and is gaining attention.

On the 6th, Goheung-gun held an agreement ceremony for the ‘Eco-friendly Land-based Shrimp Aquaculture Cluster’ at Palyongsan Hall in the county office, attended by officials from Goheung Fisheries Corporation Co., Ltd. and about 20 people who have returned to fishing.

Through this agreement, Goheung Fisheries Corporation Co., Ltd. plans to invest a total of 110 billion KRW over three years to establish a one-stop aquaculture system from seedling to shipment, including ▲aquaculture and seedling farms ▲feed factories ▲distribution facilities ▲education and research centers ▲aquaculture equipment (module) production facilities ▲feed factories. Upon completion of the project, about 1,000 new jobs will be created annually.

Additionally, the county has agreed to mutually cooperate on ▲promoting Goheung-grown clean shrimp as a specialty product ▲transferring leading technologies for the stable settlement of returnees to fishing and job creation, expecting to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and attracting urban residents through new income generation.

In particular, Goheung Fisheries Corporation plans to train 300 returnees as shrimp aquaculture experts, which is expected to greatly help provide jobs and stabilize the settlement of returnees in the future.

Goheung Fisheries Corporation Co., Ltd. is a specialized aquaculture company producing and supplying farmed shrimp by introducing biofloc aquaculture technology, delivering shrimp to large distribution companies and online distribution networks in the metropolitan area.

Currently, it is investing 6 billion KRW in a 66,000㎡ (20,000 pyeong) land-based facility house in the Gaya-ri area of Dodeok-myeon, with construction underway to complete the remaining site. In the Jeomam-myeon area, it has secured land to create a new aquaculture farm of 264,200㎡ (80,000 pyeong).

A county official said, “We will do our best to provide administrative support so that Goheung can emerge as a mecca of eco-friendly shrimp aquaculture through organic cooperation,” and added, “Once the cluster is completed, it is expected to lead to the development of the local aquaculture industry as well as additional investments such as primary and secondary processing industries and a comprehensive logistics center.”

He also said, “There will be more opportunities for many young people seeking jobs and urban residents wishing to return to fishing to settle in Goheung, which will activate population inflow and help revitalize the local economy.”
