Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk is successfully promoting its agricultural and food products overseas this year.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The overseas promotion team of Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, participated in the 49th LA Korean Festival and the 16th Agricultural and Marine Products Excellent Expo from September 22 to September 25, achieving significant results in expanding exports of local agricultural and specialty products in the United States.
The overseas promotion project for agricultural and food products has been promoted since 2014 to expand exports through overseas promotion and sales activities of local agricultural and specialty products, aiming to globalize Yeongyang chili peppers and expand exports of K-spicy flavors.
Yeongyang-gun forms an overseas promotion team every year and participates in the LA Korean Festival to promote local agricultural and specialty products and expand exports.
The LA Korean Festival is held at Seoul International Park, the heart of the LA area in the United States, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually. Among approximately 260 booths, there are 116 agricultural and marine products EXPO booths introducing excellent Korean agricultural and marine specialty products, about 30 booths for small and medium-sized enterprises' excellent products, multicultural performances, various exhibition booths, and traditional experience events. It is the most traditional Korean festival event in the United States that conducts various events to elevate the brand value of Korea.
In Gyeongbuk Province, various agricultural and specialty products from about 12 cities and counties, including Yeongyang-gun, participated.
This year, the Yeongyang-gun overseas promotion team consisted of Yeongyang Chili Distribution Corporation, Yeongyang-gun, and Yeongyang Chili Miss, participating to promote local specialty products such as Bitkkalchan chili powder, gochujang, and doenjang in the Korean-American market in the United States. Despite the economic recession and rising prices in the U.S., they achieved an on-site sales amount of $70,000 and a potential promotional effect of about $300,000.

During the event, the Governor of Gyeongbuk Province and the Chairman of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council visited the Yeongyang-gun booth to promote the excellence of Yeongyang chili peppers and encourage the participating local companies.
In addition to the existing export company Ultari USA, a vendor meeting was held for entry into H Mart, the largest agricultural and food distribution chain in the U.S., taking a big step to promote Yeongyang chili peppers globally.
Choi Hyundong, President of Yeongyang Chili Distribution Corporation, said, “Through various activities to enter overseas markets for our local agricultural and specialty products, we will expand localization of agricultural and specialty products and continue to make active efforts to expand exports of Bitkkalchan chili peppers.”
County Governor Oh Dochang said, “The active movement of the overseas promotion team for the globalization of Yeongyang chili peppers is necessary now and in the future. We will continuously carry out overseas promotion and sales activities to brand Yeongyang chili peppers' K-spicy flavor as a premium product and to rebirth Yeongyang chili peppers in the world.”
