Highest Competition Ratio in Physical Therapy 78.7:1, Followed by Dental Hygiene, Nursing, and Clinical Pathology
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] In the first round of early admissions for nationwide junior colleges, among regional colleges excluding the metropolitan area, Gyeongnam Jeongbo University attracted the highest number of applicants.
Gyeongnam Jeongbo University (President Kim Dae-sik) announced on the 7th that it recorded a competition rate of 6.96 to 1 based on the quota for the first round of early admissions for the 2023 academic year, which closed on the 6th.
Due to the intensified concentration in the metropolitan area and the crisis era for regional colleges, Gyeongnam Jeongbo University ranked just after four metropolitan universities in competition rate and took the top spot among non-metropolitan regions.
Gyeongnam Jeongbo University received a total of 13,232 applicants, including 11,935 for the 1,714 quota-based admissions and 1,297 for non-quota admissions.
The university officials were encouraged by the results, which nearly reached the university's maximum target competition rate of 7 to 1.
The department with the highest competition rate was the Department of Physical Therapy, which saw 472 applicants for 6 special admissions for specialized high school students, resulting in a competition rate of 78.7 to 1.
Following were the Department of Dental Hygiene (49.8 to 1), Department of Nursing (47.8 to 1), Department of Clinical Pathology (41.8 to 1), and Department of Electronic Engineering (24.3 to 1).
Kim Kyung-mi, Director of Admissions at Gyeongnam Jeongbo University, analyzed, “Despite the difficult admissions environment due to the preference for four-year universities, declining school-age population, and concentration in the metropolitan area, students and parents seem to have high expectations for Gyeongnam Jeongbo University's unique employment class.”
Director Kim added, “Gyeongnam Jeongbo University will do its best to expand advanced educational infrastructure and prepare customized curricula to take full responsibility for students' employment.”
In the 2023 junior college first round early admissions competition rate rankings based on quota, Bucheon University ranked 8.98 to 1, Seoil University 7.87 to 1, Hanyang Women's University 7.68 to 1, and Myongji College 7.12 to 1, all located in the metropolitan area, followed by Gyeongnam Jeongbo University at 6.96 to 1, Ulsan College of Science 6.94 to 1, and Dong-Eui College of Science 6.50 to 1.
