Ulsan Fire Station Deploys 'Mountain Specialist Volunteer Fire Brigade' Forward... Ensuring Safety of Hikers in Yeongnam Alps During Autumn Ulsan Fire Station has deployed a specialized mountain volunteer fire brigade to the Ganwoljae Shelter to ensure the safety of hikers.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan Ulju Fire Station is deploying a mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade specialized in mountain rescue to the Ganuwoljae Shelter to ensure the safety of hikers, which is expected to surge ahead of the autumn foliage season.


It will operate only on weekends and public holidays from October 8 to November 20, with five mountain rescue volunteer firefighters assigned.


The mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade consists of specialized volunteer firefighters belonging to the Ulju Fire Station and operates in the Yeongnam Alps area to ensure the safety of hikers.


They carry out various mountain-related activities such as rapid search and discovery of rescue targets, mountain rescue and first aid assistance, maintenance of accident-prone hiking trails, and safety patrols.

Jung Ho-young, chief of Ulju Fire Station, said, “With the forward deployment of the mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade during the autumn season, we will prevent mountain accidents and take the lead in ensuring the safety of hikers through prompt initial response in case of accidents.”


The Ulju Fire Station mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade has been forward deployed to the Ganuwoljae Shelter during spring and autumn seasons since 2019.


During the autumn forward deployment period in 2021, they protected the safety of hikers through a total of 191 activities, including 156 on-site treatments, 20 emergency transports, and 15 rescue operations.
