Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has decided to strictly prevent livestock infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has vowed to firmly prevent livestock infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza.
To this end, the county is implementing special quarantine measures from October to February 2023 to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza and foot-and-mouth disease, which have a high risk of occurrence during the winter season.
First, during the special quarantine period, a livestock quarantine situation room has been established and is being operated. To prevent the transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza by wild birds, an administrative order banning the entry of poultry-related livestock vehicles near migratory bird habitats (Goseongcheon) has been announced, and slaked lime has been applied.
In addition, banners have been installed and notices posted to promote awareness among residents.
During the special quarantine period, Goseong-gun has made it mandatory for livestock vehicles entering poultry and pig farms to pass through and be disinfected at designated disinfection facilities.
Furthermore, to block foot-and-mouth disease, mass vaccination will be conducted from October, and from November, measures to prohibit the inter-city and provincial movement of raw manure will also be implemented.
Choi Kyung-rak, Director of the Livestock Division, said, “Not only does the risk of recurring disaster-type livestock diseases during the winter season increase every year, but the spread of new overseas malignant infectious diseases is also rising. Establishing a thorough response system among livestock farmers and quarantine officials is more important than anything else.”
