[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Sejong Telecom has been selected as the seventh 5G specialized network operator in South Korea.
On the 7th, Sejong Telecom announced that it received the frequency allocation for 5G mobile communication specialized networks on the 6th and will begin building an ecosystem for public and industrial safety prevention based on the 5G specialized network.
With this approval, Sejong Telecom became the seventh company in South Korea to be allocated a 5G specialized network. At the same time, its application for the change of the first license for a period telecommunications operator was also approved, enabling it to directly provide 5G services.
The requested frequency band is 4.7 GHz with 100 MHz bandwidth. The Ministry of Science and ICT allocated the entire requested frequency band to ensure that the 5G-based industrial safety services planned by Sejong Telecom can be smoothly provided.
Using the allocated frequency, Sejong Telecom will build a dedicated 5G specialized network for small and medium manufacturing companies at the Banwol-Sihwa Industrial Complex in Gyeonggi Province and take active steps to establish a safety prevention platform.
The company will develop a digital safety platform by enabling large-capacity data transmission and a massive Internet of Things (IoT) environment, linking predictive maintenance sensors and CCTV installations. The plan is to quickly predict and respond to major disaster prevention and the five major safety accidents in manufacturing. Subsequently, the strategy is to expand subscription-based safety services that small and medium-sized manufacturing companies can adopt without burden.
Lee Kwang-mo, Director of Strategic Planning at Sejong Telecom, emphasized, “This selection is meaningful as we will activate B2G and B2B services as a 5G specialized network operator. We will configure customized networks and provide various services tailored to the needs of public and industrial safety sectors to help South Korea secure the world’s best industrial safety competitiveness.”
