The webtoon production company ‘Content Lab Blue’ (CEO Go Young-to)’s work ‘Majon Hyeonse Ganglimgi’ achieved the milestone of selling 1,200 copies within 4 days after the release of its volume edition in France on September 21.
‘Majon Hyeonse Ganglimgi,’ published through a collaboration between the French local publisher Cit? ?dition and Content Lab Blue, is a volume edition of the webtoon, created targeting France where traditional published comics dominate the market.
The French comics market is valued at $298 million and is considered a strategic hub for the North American and European comics markets. Therefore, when domestic webtoons enter France, they reflect local sentiments by simultaneously serializing webtoons and publishing paper books to increase recognition and gauge potential.
In this context, the successful publication of ‘Majon Hyeonse Ganglimgi’ is a very encouraging achievement.
Kim Chan-il, head of Content Lab Blue’s Global Business Division, said, “Although Eastern martial arts fantasy is a relatively less familiar genre compared to Western fantasy in France, we are pleased to have achieved such good results. We will strive to introduce various works and promote their appeal starting with this success.”
Meanwhile, ‘Majon Hyeonse Ganglimgi’ is based on a web novel of the same name and depicts a modern martial arts fantasy story about Jeokchon Majon, who faced death stained with betrayal and conspiracy, living a new life as a Korean high school student named Kang Jin-ho.
Domestically, the original web novel has already recorded 410 million views, and the webtoon has 42 million views, making it a major work. It has many fans due to its vast storyline spanning Korea and the martial arts world, unique worldview, and spectacular action scenes.
