[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family held a meeting with the Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 Center, an institution supporting victims of violence such as stalking, to hear field opinions on strengthening support for stalking victims, the ministry announced on the 7th.

At the meeting, center directors shared cases of cooperation with the National Police Agency from the Gyeonggi and Jeonbuk 1366 Centers, and discussed awareness improvement for stalking prevention, strengthening preventive education, and the responsibilities of public institutions.

They discussed measures to strengthen protection and support for stalking victims, including implementing a one-stop service to enhance cooperation among victim support institutions from the early stages of incidents, operating a pilot project for emergency housing support, and other ways to enhance protection and support for stalking victims.

The Stalking Victim Protection Act is currently pending in the National Assembly. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to promptly enact this law and strengthen cooperation between the National Police Agency and the Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 Center from the early stages of incidents to ensure that victims receive necessary information sufficiently and timely through linkage.

Starting next year, the ministry also plans to operate a pilot project centered on the 1366 Center to establish a case management system with local communities and related organizations, providing customized integrated solutions for victims.

Additionally, a working-level consultative body will be formed with the National Police Agency to regularly discuss current issues such as policies to prevent violence against women and measures to strengthen victim protection.

They will develop and distribute stalking prevention education content targeting university students and others, and conduct training for staff at stalking victim support facilities as well as awareness improvement education on stalking for investigative agencies.
