[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, unveiled a blueprint for a global provincial administration that competes and cooperates with the world during the 8th term of the elected government.
On the 6th, ahead of his 100th day in office, Governor Kim held a press conference and presented a provincial administration vision to achieve the "Great Leap Forward Jeonnam Happiness Era Soaring to the World" together with the residents, stating, "Although it has been a short period since my inauguration, we have initiated the great leap forward of Jeonnam with remarkable achievements."
The major achievements during the first 100 days of the 8th elected government include ▲reflection of 8.2 trillion KRW in the 2023 government budget ▲selection as a preliminary candidate site for the space industry cluster ▲designation as a regulatory free zone for converted electric vehicles ▲selection for the Geomundo Modern History and Culture Space Revitalization Project ▲early passage of preliminary feasibility study for the Agricultural and Food Climate Change Response Center ▲securing 46.6 billion KRW for livestock sector public projects including the Low-Methane Forage Comprehensive Distribution Center ▲selection for the regionally specialized visa pilot project ▲agreement on the innovation city development fund issue after 16 years and consultation on support projects around Hwasun Dongbok Dam ▲laying the foundation for an economic community through promotion of attracting a semiconductor specialized industrial complex.
Governor Kim said, "Jeonnam once viewed the global market as difficult, but now that it has reached a global level, we will create an era soaring beyond Korea to the world," declaring a "global provincial administration" that competes and cooperates with the world.
As directions for provincial administration, he proposed ▲leading national balanced development ▲realizing Jeonnam as a new marine, cultural tourism, and eco-friendly capital ▲developing wide-area tourism linking the southern region including Yeongnam and Honam and Jeju ▲expanding the local extinction response fund to 5 trillion KRW ▲proclaiming the vision for the Yeongnam-Honam win-win cooperation and harmony grand festival.
Regarding this, he stated, "We will cooperate with Gwangju City to lead the semiconductor and energy industries, including the globally expanding power semiconductors, and strive to attract related companies," and added, "To lead the globally spotlighted K-culture and tourism, we will actively foster and support the convergence of culture, arts, and tourism industries, and nurture 1 million Jeonnam Sarangae (愛) supporters."
He continued, "We will also devote all efforts to attracting a national medical school, a 30-year wish of the residents, and a super-strong laser research facility to establish a science and technology R&D hub in the Honam region."
Additionally, the Eastern Regional Headquarters plans to complete its office building by May next year and strengthen the organization through a comprehensive organizational diagnosis for the regular personnel appointment in July. For special autonomous districts, priority will be given to joint projects such as waste disposal, transportation networks, and water supply. To overcome the population extinction crisis, solutions for education issues include attracting international high schools to enterprise cities or innovation cities. For expanding offshore wind power, consultations with the government will be held from the perspective of energy sovereignty, while benchmarking overseas fishermen coexistence models that protect fishery resources. Various provincial administration plans were also disclosed.
