Shared Kitchen 'Monki' Q3 Sales Up 22%... "Simultaneous Operation of Dine-in and Delivery Is the Key" Monkey Bundang Humax Branch

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The shared kitchen-style food court 'Monki' saw its third-quarter sales increase by 22% compared to last year, despite the sluggish delivery market.

Monki announced on the 6th that its third-quarter sales this year rose 22% compared to the same period last year. Even amid a weak delivery market following the lifting of social distancing measures, delivery sales increased by 9%, and in-store sales rose by 39%.

The simultaneous operation of both in-store and delivery services in the shared kitchen-style food court business is analyzed as a factor for sales growth.

A Monki representative explained, "Sales increased significantly as the number of customers visiting large halls with over 100 seats grew substantially," adding, "The significant increase in the number of Monki app members, a time-reservation ordering application, is also a factor in the sales growth." As of August, the number of Monki app members increased by about 400% compared to January last year.

On the other hand, since the lifting of distancing measures in April, dining brands focused on delivery and delivery-only restaurants have continued to see sales declines. According to Mobile Index, the monthly active users (MAU) of the three major delivery apps (Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo, Coupang Eats) in August were approximately 32.18 million, down 8.9% from 35.34 million in the same period last year.

Recently, Monki introduced a delivery consulting system. Delivery consulting is a program where Monki's food service management experts visit small business owners directly to coach and provide solutions for all aspects of delivery apps, from registration to management and marketing.

To revitalize sales for tenant business owners, Monki also launched a free delivery service. Currently being piloted at Monki's Guro Digital Complex branch, this service offers free delivery within a 1.2 km radius of the Guro branch for orders placed through the Monki app, regardless of the minimum order amount.

Meanwhile, Monki is a new-concept dining platform that combines IT and AI shared kitchen systems with a curated selection of local restaurants and famous dining brands nationwide. It operates six branches and over 130 restaurants in key metropolitan areas such as Gangnam Station, City Hall Station, and Bundang Sunae Station.
