New Trust Fund Established for World Heritage Impact Assessment Training
World Heritage Leadership Forum to be Held in Suwon from 10th to 13th
The Cultural Heritage Administration provides 340 million KRW annually to an international organization for education, training, and research on cultural heritage preservation.
On the 6th, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that it will sign a memorandum of understanding for a trust fund project with the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) at the National Palace Museum on the 7th. ICCROM, established in 1959, is an advisory body to the World Heritage Centre (WHC). It operates various educational programs to promote international cooperation in the field of cultural heritage preservation and restoration. Currently, 137 countries, including Korea, are members.
The Cultural Heritage Administration signed a trust fund agreement with ICCROM in 2012. From the following year until this year, it has provided approximately 240 million KRW annually to support education, training, and research on cultural heritage preservation in the Asia-Pacific region. With the renewal of the agreement this time, the support fund will increase to about 340 million KRW annually.
With the trust fund from the Cultural Heritage Administration, ICCROM operates programs such as training preservation experts in the Asia-Pacific region and world heritage leadership. Soon, education related to Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) will also be newly established.
In line with the signing of the agreement, the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold a World Heritage Leadership Forum in Suwon from the 10th to the 13th, hosted by the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage. Under the theme "Benefits Provided by Heritage," heritage stakeholders from around the world will discuss cultural heritage preservation and cooperation methods with local communities.
