Gwangju Buk-gu Resident Participation Budget Committee Reviews 2023 Main Budget Formulation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City is collecting opinions from resident participatory budget committee members for the 2023 main budget formulation.

On the 6th, Buk-gu announced that on the 7th, starting at 11 a.m., it will hold a "Resident Participatory Budget System General Discussion" in the meeting room on the 3rd floor of Buk-gu Office, with the participation of all 146 members of the Resident Participatory Budget Committee.

At this general discussion, 42 resident-proposed projects (1.478 billion KRW) for next year, discovered and submitted through a public contest in the first half of this year, will be selected.

Buk-gu plans to reflect the selected resident-proposed projects in the 2023 budget after review and adjustment by the Resident Participatory Budget System Private Council, considering public interest and feasibility, and final approval by the district council.

Subsequently, on the 12th, discussion meetings by five subcommittees?autonomous administration, finance and economy, culture and health, resident life, and urban transportation?will be held regarding the 2023 departmental budget formulation requests.

Director Moon said, "This budget policy discussion was prepared to actively reflect residents' opinions in budget formulation," adding, "We will continue to seek various methods of resident participation to enhance transparency and efficiency in financial management."

Meanwhile, the Resident Participatory Budget System was first implemented nationwide by Buk-gu in 2003, recognized as a model case for realizing fiscal democracy, and became an opportunity for mandating the introduction of resident participatory budget systems in local governments across the country.
