Namdo Food Culture Festival, Marching Festival, and Yeojaman Mudflat Sunset Experience to be Held This Weekend
Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival on the 22nd, and ‘2022 Yeosu Dongdongbuk Festival’ Scheduled for November 5-6
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Yeosu City, the nation's top marine tourism city, is heating up with a series of festivals in October.
First, from Friday, October 7 to Sunday, October 9, the 28th Namdo Cultural Food Festival will be held for three days at the Yeosu World Expo site.
Under the slogan "Taste of Namdo! Connecting the World," this festival features a variety of programs including the opening ceremony and celebratory performances on the first day, Namdo food competitions, Namdo dialect contests, creative beverage competitions, healing talk concerts, and a nostalgic Namdo photo exhibition.
The exhibition halls include ▲a themed hall where visitors can view and taste Namdo seasonal foods ▲an international hall offering representative dishes from 10 countries, Namdo traditional liquors, and specialty breads from various cities and counties ▲a food hall representing 22 cities and counties of Jeollanam-do ▲and a hall dedicated to masters of Namdo cuisine.
On October 8 and 9, the Yeosu Marching Festival will spectacularly open around Yi Sun-sin Square.
The festival features performances starting with the 222-member YMF Yeosu Citizen Orchestra, followed by the Seoul Yeomgwang High School Marching Band, Yeosu Municipal Gugak Orchestra, Crown Marching Band, Korea Junior Big Band, MB Crew B-Boys, and Jeong Da-kyung, a former contestant of Miss Trot, delivering lively stages.
Various side events involving citizens and spectators, such as relay logo songs, flash mobs, and flea markets, are also prepared.
On October 9 and 10, the 13th Yeosu Yeoja Bay Mudflat Sunset Experience Event will be held around Sora-myeon Haenumi-gil.
Visitors can participate in hands-on experiences such as catching fish directly (Gaemaegi experience), barehanded fishing, bamboo goby fishing, clam digging which is popular every year, a 500-meter walk along the sea road called Bokgae-do Family Love Walk, and treasure hunting experiences.
Additionally, there will be rich attractions including the Bungeoje and Dangsanje rituals praying for fishermen's safety and abundant catches, lively celebratory performances and busking shows, a sunset song festival, and dance competitions performed by students.
Moreover, various side events such as a children's experience center with face painting and water rocket making, and a marine food experience center will be available.
On October 22, the Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival will illuminate the romantic night sea around Yi Sun-sin Square and Janggun-do Sea area, and on November 5 and 6, the 2022 Yeosu Dongdongbuk Festival will be held around Yonggi Park and Seonso Park.
Meanwhile, the 56th Yeosu Turtle Ship Festival, held from September 30 to October 2 at Jongpo Marine Park, was a huge success, attracting crowds of citizens and tourists.
In particular, the Tongjeyeong-gil Nori performance involving over 800 professional directors and the spectacular drone light show with 600 drones drew enthusiastic applause from the audience and gained great popularity.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong said, "In October, Yeosu is heating up with a series of festivals. We hope families visit our beautiful Yeosu, the nation's top marine tourism city, to enjoy the lively festivals and take home happy memories."
