Musical Production on the Loyalty and Historical Spirit of Ulsan Uibyeong during the Imjin War and Jeongyu War
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan Culture and Arts Center will hold a touring performance of Ulsan's first live-location musical, "Ulsan and the Imjin War," to commemorate the 103rd National Sports Festival and the 42nd Disabled Sports Festival held in Ulsan.
The touring performances will be held three times: on October 9th at Gibaksan Fortress in Buk-gu, on the 15th at Hakseong Park in Jung-gu, and on the 23rd at Changpyosa Temple in Seosaeng-ri, Ulju-gun.
The performances start at 6:30 PM each day, and free admission is available on a first-come, first-served basis starting 30 minutes before the show.
The live-location musical "Ulsan and the Imjin War" is a production depicting the loyal spirit of Ulsan's militia during the Imjin War and the Jeongyu War, as well as the turbulent history of Ulsan, through musical theater.
The work is a dramatized true story beginning with a Japanese woman named Nishio (西生) Hanako, who visits Ulsan to shoot a documentary film.
The play was written and directed by Park Yongha, director of Ulsan Culture and Arts Center, with choreography by Hong Ikyeong, a dancer who delicately expresses the sentiment of Korean dance.
About 30 performers appear, including talented musical actors Lee Kwangyong and Lee Hyungbin, Ulsan City Choir member Hyun Ji-eun, and local actors Hwang Byungyun, Kim Sunghun, and Kim Hyungseok.
A representative of Ulsan Culture and Arts Center said, "Producing and performing a live-location musical based on Ulsan's historical and cultural themes is especially meaningful," adding, "We hope it will be an opportunity to interestingly convey Ulsan's history and culture to the audience."
