[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan City will hold a total of six cultural and artistic events across Ulsan this year in line with the National Sports Festival and National Para Games.
The 103rd National Sports Festival will be held from October 7 to 13, and the 42nd National Para Games will take place from October 19 to 24.
The first event during the sports festival period is the ‘2022 Ulsan Culture Festival,’ held from October 7 to 13.
The ‘2022 Ulsan Culture Festival’ is a cultural and artistic festival commemorating the 2022 National Sports Festival and National Para Games, held again after 17 years.
At Ulsan Sports Complex and Taehwagang National Garden, artistic performances, street performances, experiential programs, and exhibitions reflecting the characteristics of 17 cities and provinces will be presented.
The second event, the Cheoyong Cultural Festival, will be held from October 8 to 10 at Taehwagang National Garden.
The Cheoyong Cultural Festival began as the Ulsan Industrial Festival in 1967 and is Ulsan’s representative festival, now in its 56th year.
During the festival, various experiences such as traditional performance festivals, traditional games, and local art performances are offered.
The third event, the ‘Nadri Festival,’ is also a festival full of enjoyable activities. The ‘Nadri Festival’ will be held from October 8 to 12 at Taehwagang National Garden.
Composed of moving performances by artists gathered from various regions to Ulsan, the ‘Nadri Festival’ will be held together with the Cheoyong Cultural Festival and Ulsan Culture Festival, making it a richer festival than ever before.
The fourth event, the ‘Oesol Hangeul Hanmadang,’ held to commemorate the achievements of independence activist and linguist Oesol Choi Hyun-bae, is also not to be missed.
The ‘Oesol Hangeul Hanmadang’ is held to understand the cultural value of Hangeul in the year commemorating the 128th birthday of Oesol Choi Hyun-bae, who advocated that love for Hangeul is the path to love for the country.
It will take place from October 8 to 10 at the Oesol Memorial Hall and the Won-dong area of Jung-gu.
The fifth event is the ‘2022 Ulsan Whale Festival,’ themed around Ulsan’s whales, which recently became a hot topic due to a drama.
Ulsan is the center of the modern whaling industry and a representative whale city in Korea.
The city will hold the ‘2022 Ulsan Whale Festival’ at Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village and Whale Culture Special Zone, the whale’s hometown.
The event will be held from October 13 to 16, offering various attractions such as parades, performances, and holograms themed around whales, which children love.
Finally, the comprehensive arts competition, the ‘2022 Korea Arts Festival,’ will be held in Ulsan from October 14 to 16.
The ‘Korea Arts Festival’ aims to revitalize the creative foundation of artists and promote the public’s enjoyment of culture and arts.
This festival has been held concurrently in the cities and provinces hosting the National Sports Festival every year, and this year it will also be held alongside the National Sports Festival hosted in Ulsan.
Out of a total of 342 artist teams, 44 teams that advanced through fierce competition will compete in the finals in three categories?traditional Korean music, photography, and film?across Ulsan.
A city official said, “Due to the various events held in October, Ulsan is expected to bustle with vitality after a long time,” and added, “We hope citizens will relieve their pent-up feelings from COVID-19 and fully enjoy the festivals.”
