[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lotte announced on the 6th that it will hold the '2022 Super Blue Marathon' at the Peace Square in Peace Park, Sangam, Seoul on the 8th. This is an offline marathon event held for the first time in three years, following the lifting of the outdoor mask mandate and the resumption of free outdoor activities.
Now in its 7th year, the Super Blue Marathon is an event jointly planned by Lotte and Special Olympics Korea with the purpose of breaking down the barriers of misunderstanding about disabilities by providing opportunities for people with and without disabilities to run together.
About 1,300 people with disabilities, along with non-disabled participants and Lotte employees totaling around 8,000, will tie blue shoelaces symbolizing hope and independence and participate in the race. The event starts at Peace Square and features the Super Blue Course where people with and without disabilities run together, a 5km course within the park, a 10km course leading to Nanji Park, and a half marathon course turning back at Changneungcheon Stream.
Participants will receive souvenirs such as Super Blue Marathon T-shirts and blue shoelaces, and finishers will be awarded completion medals.
Lotte affiliates are also participating. Lotte Himart plans to provide prizes for the winners, including laptops and mop vacuum cleaners. Lotte Chilsung Beverage will operate water stations along the course, providing water and drinks, while Lotte Confectionery will offer snacks for participants. Seven Eleven will distribute eco-friendly bags, Canon Korea will operate AED (Automated External Defibrillator) booths for emergency situations, and a medical support volunteer team will also be dispatched.
