[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Domino's Pizza announced on the 6th that it will conduct drone delivery services in Jeju Island this month. This is the second time following last year’s commercialization of the drone delivery service for the first time in Korea in Sejong City.
Domino's Pizza will operate drone delivery services for four days on the 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th at Samyang Beach in Jeju Island. The drone delivery service takes off from the rooftop of the Jeju Hwabuk branch building and lands at Samyang Beach, approximately 2.3 km away. The drone is equipped with a dedicated box similar to a hot bag and flies autonomously, with route changes possible through a remote control system. Notably, unlike conventional battery drones, it uses hydrogen fuel cells to enhance eco-friendliness.
The drone delivery service can be used by selecting the drone-exclusive ‘Domino Spot’ on the official Domino's Pizza app and placing a prepaid set menu delivery order. During the drone delivery service period, flights can be made up to six times a day, and orders can be placed from 11:00 AM to 5:29 PM.
A Domino's Pizza representative explained, “Unlike the service conducted last year in Sejong City, this drone delivery service passes directly through urban areas, which is significant in confirming the safety of drone flights in urban environments in the future.”
