[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] As of 9 PM on the 5th, over 20,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.


According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, 27,679 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 5,909 fewer cases compared to the same time the previous day (33,588 cases). Compared to one week ago on the 28th of last month (30,090 cases), it decreased by 2,411 cases, and compared to two weeks ago on the 21st of last month (31,464 cases), it decreased by 3,785 cases.


Since the count will be finalized by midnight, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 6th is expected to increase, but it is likely to remain in the 20,000 range.


Among the new cases in the interim count on this day, 14,749 cases (53.3%) were from the Seoul metropolitan area, and 12,930 cases (46.7%) were from non-metropolitan areas. By region, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 7,636, Seoul 5,520, Gyeongbuk 1,901, Incheon 1,593, Daegu 1,576, Gyeongnam 1,567, Gangwon 1,125, Chungnam 1,044, Chungbuk 1,039, Jeonbuk 928, Daejeon 742, Jeonnam 692, Gwangju 670, Busan 595, Ulsan 579, Jeju 251, and Sejong 221.


From the 29th of last month to this day, the daily new confirmed cases for one week were 30,861 → 28,492 → 26,953 → 23,596 → 12,148 → 16,423 → 34,739, averaging 24,745 cases per day.
