The 3rd Gyeongnam Office of Education Resident Participation Budget Committee meeting of 2022 was held.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Office of Education held the 3rd Resident Participation Budget Committee meeting for 2022 on the 5th.
At this year's budget committee meeting, held to select resident participation budget proposal projects to be reflected in next year's budget, 118 proposals were reviewed to decide whether to include them in the 2023 budget.
The resident participation budget proposal project is operated year-round to guarantee residents the opportunity to participate in the budget formulation process and to discover innovative educational policy projects applicable to educational sites.
According to the provincial Office of Education, the number of resident proposals has increased every year: 32 in 2020, 65 in 2021, and 118 in 2022, marking an 81.5% increase compared to last year.
The projects selected by the budget committee include ▲Creating rest-friendly restrooms ▲Installing changing rooms in restrooms ▲Operating visiting safety and health education programs ▲Disaster safety consultations for kindergartens in the province, with the required budget reaching 3.1 billion KRW.
The Office of Education announced that in a resident survey on budget formulation conducted in August, 60.3% of the 7,420 respondents answered that outdated environments such as restrooms should be improved to create a safe and pleasant educational environment.
Additionally, 37.1% of students chose the creation of clean restrooms as the priority area for budget support to create a convenient and stylish school environment.
The Office of Education plans to include the selected proposal projects in the 2023 main budget and finalize them after the provincial council's budget review in December.
Policy Planning Officer Lee Kyung-gu said, “We will actively include the adopted resident proposal projects in the budget and guide various resident proposals and supplementary opinions to all departments to ensure that residents' valuable opinions are reflected in Gyeongnam education policies.”
