[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] On the 5th, a delegation of Gyeongju city council members visited the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Wolseong Nuclear Power Headquarters.

This visit was made to enhance the overall understanding of the nuclear industry following the launch of the 9th Basic Council and the inclusion of the new government's national agenda item, "Abolition of Nuclear Phase-out and Strengthening of the Nuclear Industry Ecosystem."

The city council members listened to explanations about the operation status of the Wolseong Nuclear Power Headquarters and major issues, further increasing their understanding of the nuclear industry. For 13 first-term council members, it provided an opportunity to confirm the safety of nuclear power plant operations and to take an interest in the industry.

The city council members visited the maintenance site of the spent fuel storage pool at the No. 1 power plant, which was reported on recently by a broadcasting company regarding tritium, as local residents have been anxious and the local economy has been increasingly difficult. Through a Q&A session, they confirmed that the reported content was distorted and exaggerated and did not reflect the facts.

Afterwards, the Gyeongju city council members visited the observatory and received a report on the management status of the MACSTOR.

Lee Cheol-woo, chairman of the Gyeongju city council, said, "Citizens are anxious due to broadcasts that do not reflect the facts, but we ask that you do your best to safely operate the power plant and also work to strengthen the nuclear power ecosystem, which is the foundation of our country's energy industry."

Won Heung-dae, head of the headquarters, said, "We will make greater efforts for nuclear safety through thorough inspections and focus on alleviating anxiety through active communication activities with local residents," adding, "We will respond strongly through legal procedures regarding distorted reports and violations of related laws."
