Kim Yang-hyun, Professor at Chonnam National University, Elected as Chairman
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City is appointing new members to the 8th term Citizens' Rights Committee and making a fresh start.
On the 5th, Gwangju held the 37th plenary meeting of the Citizens' Rights Committee, the first meeting of the 8th term, and announced the appointment of 23 new members due to term expirations and other reasons.
To expand citizen participation, ex officio positions were reduced and the number of newly appointed members was increased.
At the meeting, key initiatives related to citizen communication for the 8th term were discussed, including ▲ Citizen Plaza Gwangju On(on) ▲ Status of citizen proposals on the online democracy platform ▲ Plans regarding 175 policy proposals submitted through the ‘Listening Mailbox’ ▲ Composition plan for newly appointed subcommittee members.
Additionally, Professor Kim Yanghyun of Chonnam National University was elected as the chairperson of the Citizens' Rights Committee, a position that had been vacant until now.
Chairperson Kim Yanghyun said, “Through communication with the committee members, we will protect citizens' rights and work together to improve their quality of life. We will listen to citizen policy proposals and urgent inconvenience issues, establish on-site communication and administrative cooperation systems, and work to resolve them.”
Gwangju Mayor Kang Kijung stated, “Going forward, the Citizens' Rights Committee will play a major role in supplementing the limitations of representative democracy and listening to citizens' voices, which are the most important in administration. I hope the committee will not only suggest solutions but also guide new directions with the power of collective intelligence to improve citizens' quality of life, and dress each Gwangju policy in the garment of public opinion.”
He also urged active utilization of the upcoming opening of ‘Citizen Plaza Gwangju On(on)’, a two-way citizen communication platform.
