Jeju Coast Guard Headquarters Holds Workshop to Enhance Ship Commanders' Capabilities

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency (Chief Kim Inchang) announced on the 5th that it held a capacity-building workshop for practical personnel such as captains and commanders serving on patrol vessels under the Jeju agency.

This workshop was organized to strengthen patrol duties by sharing maritime patrol issues, search and rescue cases, and on-site command cases, and by discussing major policies.

The workshop, personally attended and hosted by the Chief of Jeju Maritime Police Agency, was conducted as part of proactive administration in anticipation of increased security demands with the arrival of the full fishing season.

Additionally, discussions were held on current patrol and search and rescue issues in the Jeju waters, including the sector management system by water area currently being implemented, responses to illegal foreign fishing vessels, domestic and international government vessels' marine scientific surveys, and major on-site command cases.

In particular, various cases were shared, such as the joint tracking and apprehension of a purse seine fleet violating the fishing prohibition zone near Aewol-eup in February this year by patrol vessels, police stations, and the control room, and management plans for responding to Chinese fishing vessels resuming operations ahead of the autumn fishing season. Presentations and discussions on these cases helped strengthen the patrol capabilities required for each situation.

A Jeju Maritime Police Agency official said, "Through sharing know-how gained from various cases occurring at sea, we will do our best to protect the lives and property of the people, as well as to safeguard maritime sovereignty and protect fishery resources."
