What to Do About the Increasing Demands for 'On-Site Accompaniment' from Seoul Districts under Oh Se-hoon? Mayor Oh Se-hoon took a commemorative photo with the staff as he left Gangdong District Office.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Suhee) announced on the 5th that Amsa Chorok-gil was selected as the first destination for Seoul's autonomous district on-site accompaniment to enhance the successful achievements of the 8th term of the civil election city and district administration.

Accordingly, on the 4th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who visited Gangdong-gu, first encouraged the employees working at the district office civil service center and then had a discussion with Mayor Lee Suhee about local issues in the district.

On that day, Mayor Lee requested budget support for the Gangdong Advanced Complex Building complex development project and the large-scale living SOC projects underway, explained issues such as the direct connection of Subway Line 5 and local matters in the Godeok-Gangil district, and sought solutions with Seoul City.

In particular, Mayor Lee emphasized the necessity of the direct connection of Subway Line 5 while explaining cooperation measures to resolve issues in the Godeok-Gangil district.

Subway Line 5 operates bifurcated routes from Gangdong Station toward Hanam Geomdansan and Macheon, effectively operating as a half-line.

As a result, compared to other subway lines, the interval between trains is more than twice as long, and congestion has increased, causing inconvenience to residents.

To compensate for these structural limitations of Line 5, the district has actively promoted the Line 5 direct connection project, but it has not yet been selected as a preliminary feasibility study project by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Therefore, Mayor Lee plans to continuously appeal to the central government to include the Line 5 direct connection project in the preliminary feasibility study by supplementing the urgency and necessity of the project, and requested close cooperation from Seoul City to ensure the project proceeds swiftly once confirmed.

The Godeok, Gangil, and Sangil areas have seen a 1.5-fold increase in population compared to 2019 due to large-scale reconstruction and land development projects, and from this year, companies have started moving into Godeok Biz Valley, rapidly increasing the floating population.

With the population increase, transportation demand is also surging. Since taking office in the 8th term of the civil election, Mayor Lee has been focusing most on transportation network construction projects to support the success of companies moving into Gangdong-gu and to improve residents' transportation inconveniences.

Transportation network construction projects can only be implemented with active cooperation and support from Seoul City. Mayor Lee provided a detailed explanation of the rapidly changing status of Gangdong-gu and sought active cooperation to prevent delays and enable early opening of the ongoing Subway Line 8 and 9 extension projects.

He also proposed extending and establishing new bus routes passing through subway stations to prepare for the increased public transportation demand expected with the opening of Subway Lines 8 and 9.

Additionally, Mayor Lee thoroughly explained major local issues requiring budget support and Seoul City's cooperation, including the Gangdong Community Center complex cultural and sports facility, which is facing difficulties due to rising interest rates and raw material prices, and the creation of the Gangdong Advanced Complex Building.

Mayor Lee and Mayor Oh then moved to the Amsa Chorok-gil site along Olympic-daero, where they listened to residents' opinions and checked the progress on-site.

Amsa Chorok-gil is a project to connect the Seoul Amsa-dong archaeological site and the Han River waterfront, which are separated by Olympic-daero, into a green space by undergrounding the eight-lane Olympic-daero (Amsa-dong 164) and creating a 50m-wide green path covering 6,300㎡ on top.

At the construction site, Mayor Lee requested special grants for the creation of an access road connecting Amsa Chorok-gil and Amsa History Park and actively proposed that Gangdong-gu's Han River waterfront be developed together as part of the 'Seoul Han River Renaissance Project.'

Lee Suhee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We will strengthen communication with Seoul City and do our best to successfully promote the long-awaited projects of Gangdong residents,” and added, “Active cooperation from Seoul City is necessary to resolve major local issues in Gangdong-gu.”
