Also, during the Unified Silla and early Goryeo periods, Haenam was the place that first introduced celadon technology from China via international maritime routes and disseminated it throughout the Korean Peninsula.” It added, “The National Maritime Fisheries Museum to be established in Jeonnam must fully embrace Jeonnam’s brilliant maritime history.”
It continued, “Haenam is home to the Ttangkkeut Marine Natural History Museum, the largest in the nation, housing over 2700 species and 150,000 actual specimens, which is a strength as the exhibition items to be held at the National Maritime Fisheries Museum are already prepared.”
Furthermore, “The Solar City industrial complex proposed by Haenam County as the site for the National Maritime Fisheries Museum has locational advantages that allow wide-area connectivity with Mokpo, Yeongam, Muan, and Jindo counties. In particular, Jeonnam Province regards it as a future growth engine for the southwestern region of Jeonnam in areas such as ecology, tourism, and renewable energy.” It added, “Haenam County is the optimal site that meets all essential conditions for the National Maritime Fisheries Museum: historical significance, exhibition artifacts, and the growth engine for the future southwestern region of Jeonnam.”
Therefore, the Haenam County Branch of the Korea Journalists Association declared that Haenam is the optimal site that fully embraces the brilliant maritime history of Jeonnam, the optimal site where marine resources to be exhibited in the museum are already prepared, and the center of southwestern Jeonnam as well as the optimal site that will become the growth engine for the future southwestern region of Jeonnam in ecology, tourism, and T.
