Miryang City, Boost Immunity to Overcome New Viruses with 'Yoga'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Gyeongnam Miryang City will hold the ‘6th 2022 Miryang International Yoga Therapy Conference’ from the 7th to the 9th, both online and at the Miryanggang Outdoor Performance Hall area, together with Viveka Yoga, the Korean branch of India’s Vivekananda Yoga University.

This conference, themed ‘Yoga Therapy for Immune Enhancement,’ aims to present wise solutions through yoga for preventing mass infections caused by new viruses in modern society and enhancing immunity, providing an opportunity to experience a yogic life that relaxes both body and mind.

The event will begin on the 7th at 1:30 PM with a keynote speech by Raghavendra Rao, President of the Central Committee for Yoga and Naturopathy Research of India’s AYUSH, conducted via online ZOOM. The conference will offer theory and practice sessions led by renowned yoga experts from around the world, along with various yoga-related experiences and performances that Miryang citizens can watch, enjoy, and participate in.

The free participation program for citizens will be held on the 8th from 1 PM to 6 PM at the Miryanggang Outdoor Performance Hall area, featuring diverse yoga experiences (Hatha Yoga, Kids Yoga, Yoga with small props), Indian cultural experiences (Mehndi, Bindi, tasting traditional Indian tea, stamping traditional patterns), and a retro playground.

Amid the rapid growth of the global wellness industry, Miryang City has secured the first local government yoga-centered wellness tourism content and has successfully promoted the project by hosting the international yoga conference since 2017, accumulating various experiences and achievements.

Based on this, Miryang is preparing to soar as a successful international wellness tourism city by establishing new attractions themed around India at the International Wellness Story Town, scheduled to open in 2023, offering experiences difficult to find elsewhere.

Additionally, centered on the scenic Yeongnam Alps and the Dorejae Natural Recreation Forest, which opened on September 30, Miryang is planning wellness tourism programs linked with various forest tourism resources such as the Healing Forest and Miryang Arirang Arboretum, actively responding to the needs of modern people seeking healing and meditation.

Mayor Park Il-ho said, “In the With-Corona era, I hope this event, which will be a festival where people can listen to lectures by world-renowned figures online and simultaneously enjoy yoga together in Miryang’s outstanding natural surroundings, will bring together yoga practitioners from around the world beyond time and space.”
