[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Fire authorities conducted a special investigation after cosmetics manufacturers using hazardous materials beyond the permissible limits were found to be vulnerable to fire prevention.
The Northern Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 5th that "a special fire inspection (September 13-30) was conducted on 37 cosmetics manufacturing factories in northern Gyeonggi, resulting in the detection of a total of 15 violations."
The special fire inspection team identified issues such as insufficient sprinkler head spray radius, failure to install detectors and sprinkler heads, malfunctioning emergency exit lights, and lack of fire extinguishers. They plan to impose fines and administrative orders for the violations.
Some companies that were unaware of the inclusion of hazardous materials in their main ingredients received safety education on hazardous material standards and handling and management methods.
Cosmetics manufacturers must establish facility standards as stipulated in the Enforcement Rules of the Cosmetics Act and install proper fire safety facilities in the relevant areas.
In particular, the key inspection points include ▲whether hazardous materials exceeding the maximum allowable limits are used in the manufacturing process ▲whether fire safety facilities are properly installed according to fire safety standards ▲whether fire safety facilities are functioning normally ▲and the maintenance status of evacuation and fire prevention facilities.
Head of Headquarters Go Deok-geun urged, "Those involved must recognize that storing even small amounts of hazardous materials in large quantities during the cosmetics manufacturing process constitutes a violation of related laws, and appropriate fire safety facilities must be installed in each area."
