[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Gun-chan] A man who stalked his girlfriend after she broke up with him upon learning that he had physically punished his child was arrested by the police.

The Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 4th that they have booked and are investigating a man in his 40s, Mr. A, without detention on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act and the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.

Mr. A is suspected of stalking by repeatedly visiting and contacting his ex-girlfriend, a woman in her 40s, Ms. B, until the 2nd of this month.

It is known that Ms. B had informed Mr. A of their breakup several months ago after discovering that he had made his teenage children assume the "lying down and stretching" position and physically punished them.

Afterwards, when Mr. A continued to visit and contact her residence multiple times, stalking her, Ms. B reported him to the police on the 2nd.

The police found Mr. A around 6:20 p.m. on the day of the report in an underground parking lot near Ms. B’s residence in Hwaseong City and escorted him to the police station voluntarily.

The police issued an emergency temporary measure to prevent Mr. A from approaching Ms. B. They plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the case by questioning Mr. A, Ms. B, and others involved.
