[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Murim, a comprehensive company specializing in pulp, paper, and new materials, is attracting attention in the market by developing a new paper packaging material applicable even to frozen foods.
After extensive research, Murim developed 'Neofore FLEX,' which dramatically improves resistance to moisture and water, presenting an alternative to conventional vinyl packaging materials. It is the first pouch-type paper packaging material for frozen foods in the domestic paper industry.
The newly developed Neofore FLEX by Murim is an eco-friendly flexible packaging base paper with excellent water resistance. In collaboration with Lotte Aluminum, Lotte Group's packaging specialist, it is being officially introduced through Lotte Confectionery's new product, 'Seolleim X Angel-in-us Sweet Cafe Latte.'
Breaking the stereotype that paper is weak against water, Neofore FLEX is a culmination of Murim's eco-friendly technology and expertise. It features outstanding wet strength and water resistance, allowing long-term storage in low-temperature conditions with high cold moisture. Even if condensation occurs during thawing, it does not easily tear or get damaged, maintaining its shape. Additionally, it passed the stringent tests of the European testing institute 'PTS' and officially received recycling certification, confirming its eco-friendliness.
Lotte Confectionery applied Neofore FLEX to its ice cream packaging, reducing plastic usage by approximately 23% compared to existing packaging materials. The company explained that this contributes to environmental protection and improves the cold sensation felt when holding the product due to its lower thermal conductivity than plastic. Dongwon Industries also replaced the vinyl packaging of its major product, 'Dongwon Tuna Sashimi,' with eco-friendly paper packaging, which is now on sale in the market.
With its groundbreaking quality and eco-friendliness that surpass the limitations of paper, Neofore FLEX is receiving love calls not only from ice cream but also from various food and ingredient companies dealing with fish and meat. This is because it has opened the way to apply environmentally friendly materials to the frozen food market, which has long been considered a barren land for eco-friendly packaging due to the special environment of 'frozen packaging.'
Ryu Shin-gyu, Head of Sales at Murim, said, "Neofore FLEX, which embodies Murim's unique technology with excellent strength, water resistance, and recyclability, is a paper with broad scalability that can be applied not only to food packaging but also to paper tubes and product labels." He added, "Through this new product, we can present the possibility of replacing with eco-friendly paper to companies thirsty for environmentally friendly products."
