[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kia announced on the 4th that it sold 249,146 units (wholesale basis) domestically and internationally last month. This is an 11.0% increase compared to the same period last year.
Domestic sales were 40,009 units, up 11.8%, and overseas sales were 209,137 units, up 10.9%. By model, the Sportage, a sports utility vehicle (SUV), was the best-selling with 42,168 units. Other SUV models such as the Seltos (28,847 units) and Sorento (20,122 units) also sold well.
In the domestic market, the Sorento was the best-selling model with 5,335 units. Passenger models sold 13,000 units, and recreational vehicles (RVs) sold 21,325 units. Commercial models, including the Bongo III (5,303 units), buses, and trucks, sold 5,684 units. Overseas, the Sportage was the top-selling model with 37,727 units.
A Kia official stated, "Although uncertainties in management continue due to the resurgence of COVID-19 and semiconductor parts supply disruptions, we are minimizing the impact of supply delays through flexible semiconductor allocation and adjustments to vehicle production schedules." He added, "We will expand market share and profitability through competitive new models and solid sales strategies going forward."
