'G Valley Industrial Museum' Industry School Memories Contest... 'Guro Industrial Complex' Memory Exhibition Held Daebang Girls' Middle School Night Special Class 1st Graduation Ceremony (1981)

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 5th, the Seoul Industrial Museum, ‘G-Valley Industrial Museum,’ announced that it will collect memories of graduates who worked in the Guro Industrial Complex in the 1970s and 1980s and attended company-affiliated schools or special night classes until November 30.

Stories, photos, videos, graduation albums, and any records or memories related to school days at that time are all eligible for submission. The precious memories sent by citizens will be showcased in a planned exhibition in 2023 under the theme ‘Education of Guro Industrial Complex Workers.’

The company school system was implemented from 1977 for working youth who did not attend regular schools but worked in factories. Both the company-operated ‘company-affiliated schools’ and the general school-affiliated ‘special night classes’ played a central role in educating working youth in the Guro Industrial Complex.

This call for submissions collects personal memories of graduates who worked in the Guro Industrial Complex and attended company schools such as Yeongdeungpo Girls' High School, Yeongdeungpo Technical High School, Yeongdeungpo Girls' Commercial High School, Seoul Technical High School, Geumok Girls' High School, Sinjeong Girls' Commercial High School, Daebang Girls' Middle School, Hangang Vocational High School, Jeonghee Girls' Commercial High School, Ilseong Girls' Middle and High School, Yeonhui Saemaeul Middle and High School, and Guro Industrial Vocational Youth School.

The submission targets are ▲ stories about school life ▲ items related to school life. Selected stories and materials will be included in the 2023 planned exhibition and catalog according to the provider’s wishes, and a small commemorative gift will be given. The results of the call will be available at the 2023 G-Valley Industrial Museum planned exhibition.

Jung Young-jun, Seoul City’s New Industry Policy Officer, said, “Through the special exhibition at the G-Valley Industrial Museum, Seoul’s first industrial museum, we will remember and preserve the lives of the 70s and 80s Guro Industrial Complex workers who, after hard work, pursued hope through learning and contributed to the growth of today’s G-Valley,” and added, “We ask for active citizen participation in the company school memory collection.”
