Seoul City Provides Training to Address Operational Questions for Franchise Owners and Prospective Entrepreneurs

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will provide free capacity-building training for franchise store owners and citizens preparing to start franchise stores.

On the 5th, Seoul City stated that most franchise store owners operate as sole proprietors with limited store management experience and few educational opportunities, resulting in low awareness of laws and regulations and often not knowing how to seek remedies when facing unfair treatment. Therefore, the training will focus on essential content for franchise startup and operation.

The training will be held on the 27th, with experts from various fields such as practical officials from the Fair Trade Commission's franchise division, lawyers, and labor attorneys serving as instructors. The training content will mainly cover topics that franchise store owners should know, including "laws and systems related to franchise business," "analysis of disclosure documents," "precautions when signing franchise contracts," "franchise store personnel management," and "franchise store management techniques." The program is designed to enhance understanding of franchise business and strengthen operational capabilities by focusing on essential content.

Additionally, detailed information on dispute mediation and remedies in case of contract and operation-related damages will be provided. In particular, the training will thoroughly cover areas that could potentially escalate into legal disputes, such as laws related to the fair transaction of franchise business and laws concerning franchise contract signing and operation.

Ryu Dae-chang, Director of Fair Economy at Seoul City, said, "This training aims to strengthen the legal norms and practical store operation capabilities of franchise store owners and prospective entrepreneurs, protecting them from unfair trade practices by franchisors and supporting the creation of a stable startup environment." He added, "We plan to continuously expand customized training by target and field to promote successful franchise business operations, prevent unfair trade practices, and foster mutual growth and cooperation between franchisors and franchisees."
