Goheung-gun Conducts Integrity Training on the "Conflict of Interest Prevention Act" for Public Officials

Preventing Confusion in Advance Due to the Enforcement of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act for Public Officials

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 4th that it conducted integrity training on the "Conflict of Interest Prevention Act for Public Officials" for all employees at the county office's Space Hall.

In this training, Kwon Seok-won, Director of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, served as the instructor and clearly explained the scope of application of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, the five reporting obligations public officials must fulfill, the five restricted and prohibited acts they must avoid, and the whistleblower protection and reward system through various cases, receiving great responses from the staff.

The "Conflict of Interest Prevention Act for Public Officials" was passed by the National Assembly on April 29, 2021, and has been fully enforced since May 19 of this year. It applies to approximately 2 million public officials across 15,000 institutions nationwide. The law includes ten behavioral standards that public officials must observe in situations where their fair performance of duties could be compromised by private interests, as well as provisions for criminal penalties in case of violations.

A county official stated, "We prepared this training so that all public officials can accurately understand the newly enforced 'Conflict of Interest Prevention Act for Public Officials' this year, to prevent confusion arising from the law's implementation in advance, and to complete a clean and transparent Goheung." He added, "We hope this will lead to the establishment of a mature culture of integrity and the spread of an atmosphere of integrity in the local community."
